Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is the treatment of disease by physical and mechanical means through the use of manual therapy (massage, joint mobilization), exercise or activation, water, light, and electricity. Relatively recently, many physiotherapists have been educating and licensing themselves in the field of acupuncture and a technique called IMS or IntraMuscular Stimulation. Most of our therapists are licensed to practice acupuncture. Both techniques require the use of a solid, fine gauged needle that is inserted into the skin and muscle tissue. Acupuncture and IMS are excellent modalities for relieving pain, especially acute pain.
We offer a state of the art ultrasound unit called Autosound TM. This machine allows for a six to seven-fold increase in efficiency in tissue healing and inflammatory control over traditional ultrasound and is a favorite among our “weekend warrior” and elite athlete population for "shutting down" acute injury.
We also are excited to introduce a new exercise software application from Physiotec TM. This application allows us to build you a custom exercise program with step by step instruction and video footage for each exercise. After we have built your program we then e-mail you the link and with one click you're on your way! It's that easy.
Due to the broad nature of our knowledge base, many physiotherapists choose to specialize in various forms of treatment. The five most popular areas of specialization are Cardio-respiratory, Geriatric, Neurological, Pediatrics and Sports and Orthopedic physiotherapy. Performax Health Group physiotherapists specialize in Sports and Orthopedic as well as Chronic Pain physiotherapy.
We therapists at Performax Health Group have a high commitment to our standard of care and believe that communication and collaboration between therapists and, quite often, your physician, will ensure the best possible chance for full recovery and a successful return to function. We also believe that a thorough physiotherapy treatment should include a comprehensive exam, a pain alleviating phase, a manual therapy phase of massage and/or joint mobilization and a resistive load and stretch phase to re-integrate normal biomechanics in the region of treatment. Treatments typically last from 1-1 ½ hours. Home exercise regimes also play a big part of a patient’s recovery process and clients that follow these regimes almost always have faster recovery times.
The following is a list of some of the most common conditions our physiotherapists treat:
- Mechanical Pain of the lower back (lumbar), mid and upper back (thoracic) and neck (cervical)
- Disc Herniation in the lumbar and cervical region with/without referred pain to legs or arms
- Post surgical rehabilitation
- Post fracture rehabilitation
- Sprains (ligamentous tear or disruption) of neck, back, shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, ankle
- Strains (muscular tear or disruption) of neck, back, shoulder, arm, hip, thigh, leg
- Tendonitis (patellar, tennis or golfer’s elbow etc.)
- Mal-alignment syndrome of the pelvis (arguably one of the most common causes of chronic low back pain)
- Osteoarthritis
- Tension or Trigger Point Headache
Our approach is integrative healthcare and your well being is our primary concern. Should you not respond successfully to a physiotherapeutic approach, we may choose to augment you rehabilitation with another form of therapy. If you have any questions regarding physiotherapy and how it can help restore you to pain-free function please feel free to call Dean (Owner/Clinical Director) at 604- 433- 0100.
Best of health and happiness to you.
