What is Chiropractic

One of the largest primary-contact health care professions, chiropractic is a non-invasive, hands-on health care discipline that focuses on the neuromusculoskeletal system.

Chiropractors practice a manual approach, providing diagnosis, treatment and preventative care for disorders related to the spine, pelvis, nervous system and joints.

Chiropractors use a combination of treatments, all of which are predicated on the specific needs of the individual patient. After taking a complete history and diagnosing a patient, a chiropractor can develop and carry out a comprehensive treatment/management plan, recommend therapeutic exercise and other non-invasive therapies, and provide dietary and lifestyle counselling.

For many conditions, such as lower back pain, chiropractic care is frequently the primary method of treatment. Where other conditions exist, chiropractic care may complement or support medical treatment by relieving the neuromusculoskeletal aspects associated with the condition.

Chiropractic care may also be used to provide symptomatic relief for patients with chronic conditions. According to patient surveys, by treating the neuromusculoskeletal elements of such disorders, chiropractic treatment has been shown to improve the general well-being of the patient.

There are many reasons to seek chiropractic care (see conditions treated below).

Chiropractic is a regulated health profession, recognized by statute in all Canadian provinces and American states. Millions of patients rely on chiropractic care to help them live healthy, active lives.

MRT

Myofascial Release Therapy (MRT) is a gentle form of manual stretching of the body’s connective tissue (fascia). Fascia is an interconnected, three-dimensional web of tissue that surrounds and penetrates structures in the body, including muscles, nerves, blood vessels, organs, and bone. It helps to support and stabilize the postural balance of the body.

Fascia can become restricted with trauma, repetitive use, postural habits, disease and emotional patterns. It can become ‘glued’ to itself and adjacent structures, resulting in abnormal pressure on nerves, muscles, organs, blood vessels and bone. This can result in pain or malfunctioning throughout the body, sometimes with bizarre side effects and seemingly unrelated symptoms. Because fascia is a continuous web, restrictions in one area can exert tension and cause symptoms in other areas of the body.

Myofascial release therapy effectively releases, lengthens, and restores normal elasticity to tissues, restoring health and freedom from pain and other symptoms. Conditions for which it can be effective include: back or neck pain, orthopedic conditions, repetitive strain injuries (e.g. tendonitis), headaches and migraines, head and spine trauma, TMJ dysfunction, stress and tension related issues, neurovascular and immune disorders, and post-surgical dysfunction.

Trigenics

Trigenics is a neuromanual assessment and treatment system which

    * instantly relieves pain
    * strengthens muscles
    * restores function
    * corrects meridian energy problems

It has 3 key components:

    * controlled activation of specific neurological reflexes
    * breathing biofeedback
    * nerve-muscle manipulation

It is different from other myofascial release therapy techniques in that with it, the nervous system is treated to reset the way the brain communicates with  the rest of the body, which includes the muscles and organ systems.

When muscles are injured or tight, they are 'neurologically inhibited' because they stop receiving and sending proper nerve reflex signals to the brain. In this state, muscles do not stretch or strengthen fully with exercise and/or rehabilitation and are more likely to get injured, tight and sore.
Neurological inhibition is not corrected by mechanical deep tissue massage or muscle stripping therapies. This is where Trigenics can provide the missing link and reset the neuromuscular communication. With Trigenics, joints begin to move properly again and muscle adhesions and 'knots' become more easily correctable with massage and soft tissue release techniques. If neurological inhibition is not corrected, the bones in the spine and other joints can become restricted again following joint manipulation.
